| At the rear of the Conservatory stands an ornamental bronze Victorian statue featuring a snake coiled around the figure of a boy, atop a granite shaped ball. The bronze fountain stood originally beside the Eight Hours Day memorial on the corner of Russell and Exhibition Street. However, when a car damaged it in 1980, Council decided to relocate the fountain near the Conservatory and fit drinking taps. In 1996 the area to the rear of the Conservatory was redeveloped, the bronze figure was turned back to an ornamental fountain in the middle of a shallow pool. |
